About Gerald Carvalho Photography

Hello there! This is Gerald Carvalho, I’m a Chicago based Wedding & Lifestyle photographer, presently serving Chicago, San Francisco Bay area and beyond. My love for photography started off as a hobby. Something I played around with when I wasn’t designing. But soon, click after click, I realized I’d found my true calling. And since I’d majored in design, I understood the nuances of color, light and how to bring a picture to life through creative compositions. This helped me create my unique style that I’d like to define as clean, contemporary, creative and edgy. Thanks for stopping by!

NOTE: This is my OLD blog which is phased out, my new re-branded blog info can be found at the below post.

New year, new look. Unveiling GCP V2.0!

January 19th, 2012

Hey guys! If you were all wondering why I’ve been silent on my blog and fan page, here’s why: the GCP V2.0 rebrand! It’s been baking for a long time and now my spanking new brand and website is finally live! Check it out and let me know what you think.

Also, since my old Facebook presence will be phased out soon, I’d be more than excited if you could show me some love on the new “Facebook page”. Though this is my last post here, this blog will still remain as is for your viewing pleasure!

I hope you’ll enjoy the new design as much as I did creating it.

Thank you to all my clients, friends & family for all the support and help. A special note of appreciation to all my friends who took the time to define keywords for my brand. The new design was created in line with these key taglines in mind.

A big thank you to “The Hatchers” for all their support and patience in answering all my random questions regarding rebranding. All this would have been impossible without their help and inspiration.

Secondly, a huge shout out to “Flosites” for the awesome brand revamp, blog design and development. You guys rock. I highly recommend Ross and his team as they definitely know the inside-out of what they are doing.

Last but not the least, my heartfelt thanks to my wifey Stella, who was bearing with me during the past few months when I was heads down doing the ground work on this. Thanks for always being there to support, share ideas and collaborate, wouldn’t have come this far without you.

Here’s to an amazing 2012 and the many seasons to come!

Angelique + Tej :: Alpharetta, GA – Indian Wedding Photography

June 24th, 2011

Good Morning and Happy Friday everyone! Today on our blogpost is Angelique + Tej’s Wedding, which I’d recently shot in Atlanta, GA. Tej is good friend of mine and knew him for the past 4years, when we collaborated on a Web project. It’s around the same time when I’d started my Wedding Photography business as well. So once on a casual chat I told him about my new business and if at all he gets married :) I would love to photograph his wedding. I was surprised when he pinged me after this long, early this year and reminded me of our promise and if I was still willing to photograph his wedding. Of course I said YES, and was excited to shoot my first Destination Wedding as well! Atlanta is near and dear to my heart as it was the first Port of Entry when I entered this country 7years ago, so it had some personal memories to me. I kept smiling throughout the air port and my drive around the city :). I was humbled and honored on the trust both him and Angelique had on me to document their special day. That’s the first time I am meeting Tej in person as well, we’ve always been remote friends LOL!

Their day was amazing and Angelique + Tej made a great pair and rocked the day, surrounded by their close knit family and friends. I’ve shot in dark venues before and it was probably for the ceremony only, but this place was exceptionally dark and I shot here all day in the same lighting, which was quite a bit of a challenge and my off-camera lighting put to extreme test :). Thanks to my day before scouting, and my amazing assistant with Amanda Summerlin. Your help is greatly appreciated my friend, and this wouldn’t have been a successful session without you. The entire day was solely lit by my off-camera lighting only, thanks to my 580 Ex II’s and PW’s which kept firing all day consistently.

Since I’d didn’t want to carry all my lighting equipment I’d rented some of my gear locally with Aperturent, great guys, spot on gear and amazing customer service, highly recommend them if you plan to rent equipment around that area.

Now without further delay, enjoy their pictures and Thanks for stopping by!!

We did a mini after-shoot something more westernized and casual in an outdoor location at Autrey Mills Nature Center, and YES it’s still the same wedding and couple LOL! :) Again thanks to Amanda for recommending this park to me, its one amazing location to photograph, we just hiked 5 mins into this trail to capture this awesomeness. Further we hike this place is a photographers paradise, bridges, woods, greenery, what not.

Whitney + Ryan :: San Francisco Engagement Photography

June 11th, 2011

My excitement and amazement factor has not dropped a bit since the day I met with Whitney + Ryan! Their STUNNING looks, high energy, down to earth attitude and the list goes on…., made me go numb. She’s a teacher and he’s a Cop how KEWLer can it get. Their importance & appreciation given to photography kept me on my toes and I on my end aimed to take this session to the next level. After every session, on my drive back I reflect on the shoot and “I always feel I could’ve still did better”, as I am pretty hard on me. This time I didn’t feel shy to appreciate myself and for the first time felt I GAVE IT MY BEST, though I try doing that at every session. I know I shouldn’t be partial here, but this was by far my BEST EVER. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did and would LOVE to hear your comments, as always! :)

Checkout their SLIDESHOW here!

Whitney and I were debating between Baker’s beach and Fort Point for GG bridge view, and finally opted for Fort Point. Both regretted and can’t be happier with this choice, when I scouted the day before the weather was like heaven, on the day of the shoot, it got WINDY as hell and was FREEZING cold. W + R were SUPER TROOPERS, they didn’t mind anything though they had watery eyes cause of the crazy wind and were freezing but they still kept a mellow smile and a conversation going, gotta appreciate that! Sorry guys, I hope the pictures made justice to that killa sacrifice :) The wind came in all directions and we had to position Whitney facing the wind every now and then so her hair wasn’t messed up for the shots…WOW! My hands were so numb I could hardly feel my hands when I changed lenses LOL.

LOVED the silhouette, that’s how my eyes were seeing at that point I guess B&W LOL :).  I started to loose focus due to the crazy weather.

After we were done with Fort Point, we quickly stopped by the Golden Gate Park to incorporate some fresh and green look in our shots!

Felt much much more warmer here,  so we  decided to start tackling the cupcakes.  I was drooling while shooting these, and YES W &R did save some for Barney & myself :)

Loved the idea of  SPRINKLES, they had custom stickers to put on their packaging to meet the event type.  So glad the associate asked what was the occasion, remember to get them next time you there!

LOVED Whitney’s super sparkly RING. Ryan should have blew some $$$ LOL :)

So glad we stopped for a mini coffee break close to Financial District, this charming kid was killing the Cornet and I loved his attitude. Reminded me of my high school band days. He was super friendly and obliged to pose for us, plus took his jacket off to reveal his colorful shirt LOL. LOVED the colors, did compliment him by sending him his portraits. YES, he gave me his email and requested if I could send him his pics. How cute! :)

We quickly ran up to this secret spot to grab some shots, been scouting for a while. One good thing of working in the Financial District! :)

Whitney+Ryan_Esession_17

This was by far my LONGEST shoot ever, and it was pitch dark when we arrived here. When the setup was all done even the building lights here were turned off! BIG thanks to my good friend and assistant Barney for help with the lights, greatly appreciate your help bud.

Whitney+Ryan_Esession_18

HUGE thanks to Ryan for being so kind and attempting  this shot numerous times, to write using flash light. I sucked at it big time, and my writing looked like scribbles :)

THANK YOU & HAPPY NEW YEAR!

December 31st, 2010

I still can’t believe that 2010 has passed so QUICK! On the last day of this year, I sat back to recall all that occurred to me, family, work and business and the only thing that did to me was to bring a pleasant smile!

Apart from a successful season, what I most cherish as a photographer is have made/making so many new good friends each and every day. The opportunity to freeze memories that occurs in someones life, which they cherish for generations to come, makes my job so much more special and creates the urge to do more. Not everyone out there is fortunate to do what I do and I feel honored when couples and families trusts me to play this important role in their life!

Next to that, amidst all my crazy work schedule and happenings, there was always something special cooking behind the scenes. YES, its been the most exciting and unforgettable time of our lives for Stella and me. We were promoted to become proud parents of our baby girl “Daphne”. It wasn’t the smoothest delivery for Stella but end of the day after all the hardships and pain, when we saw our little one we it made us value life much much more. Appreciated everything that was given and viewed life in a completely different perspective. Been enjoying the happy ride of parenthood! :) I don’t usually blog much about my personal life here, but I will do so soon, Daphne’s 1st year documentation is work in progress :)

Overall it’s been such an outstanding year, couldn’t have been better. I owe a big “THANK YOU” to my wife, family, friends and clients for making this happen, I am so fortunate for having you’ll as part of my life!

Here’s to all those happy memories of last year, Good Bye 2010…and WELCOME 2011!

WISH YOU ALL AND YOUR FAMILIES A HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011! :)
